Reprodepot Fabrics was started in 1999 out of a love for vintage textiles. Unable to find suitable yardage, and with supplies of actual older fabrics dwindling, the company decided to compile a handpicked selection of brand-new fabrics with vintage and retro themes and offer them online.

Some were direct reproductions of vintage patterns and others were inspired by them, but the shared idea was a strong affection for the look of earlier textiles. To complement the fabrics, the catalog also included ribbons, buttons, clothing, gifts, patterns, and supplies with similar themes. Sometimes items that did not fit the retro theme appeared simply because the catalog considered them too good to keep to itself.

An ever-changing selection

The catalog described an ever-changing inventory intended to provide a broad selection of vintage- and retro-inspired fabrics on the internet. It organized that selection by period, motif, material, collection, and project. The fabrics page presents the main categories, while the site index shows how categories and individual items appeared together in the hosted store.

The company’s own description emphasized a handpicked approach. Direct reproductions and designs inspired by older patterns could appear beside ribbons, buttons, clothing, gifts, patterns, and supplies chosen for a similar sensibility. Items outside the retro theme occasionally joined the assortment simply because the catalog considered them too good to keep to itself.

That breadth explains why the department list extended beyond yardage. Patterns and kits connected fabric to projects; buttons, ribbon, trim, patches, and appliqués supplied finishing details; notions and books supported sewing; and gifts and home items carried the same visual language into other objects.

The catalog generally described fabrics as cotton and 45 inches wide unless otherwise noted. That storewide convention provides context, but each individual listing’s specifications remain the more precise guide.
